I used to spend a lot of time photographing at the North Carolina Zoo when I lived down there. It sits on an enormous plot of land and hosts animals from two continents: North America and Africa. I am always struck by the sheer size of the place. It tends to be pretty empty in the winter, so you can get a lot of good shots without disturbance from other visitors. It’s only $10 too!
My favorite spot at the zoo is the aviary, but the baboons are a lot of fun. Waiting for them to sit down for a couple of minutes takes a lot of patience, but this baby Hamadryas Baboon hung out for a couple of minutes when I was visiting with my brother and his fiance. The baboons usually ignore you, but this little guy looked right at me while I was shooting him.
